After many months of preparation, Quilters’ Day Out arrived and went as scheduled in spite of extreme flooding throughout the area. Sometimes it takes more than record high water levels to keep quilters away!
The arrangement for the guild booths was different this year, and we enjoyed the nice open area and being able to see all the other guilds that were represented.
The LNT booth had many samples of techniques we have learned over the past year or so, a board showing how to make a “Card Trick” quilt square (with free directions for visitors to take with them), a computer running a continuous loop of LNT pictures taken last year, lollipops for our visitors, and friendly LNT members sharing the many things we enjoy about our guild.
Things were really hopping at the LNT Boutique, also! Regular visitors to QDO often say our boutique is their first shopping spot because they know we’ll have an abundance of items at a very reasonable price. This year was no exception. The annual QDO boutique is our only fund-raiser to help defray the cost of making Cuddle Care quilts and overnight bags for Maryhurst. (Check out the great sign Terrie created!)
The Challenge Room was a great place to sit for a spell, to peruse the entries in the Nine-Patch Challenge, and to cast a Viewers’ Choice vote for a miniature, wall hanging, and bed size quilt.
LNT was well represented in the Challenge Room, and had three winners! Kim won first place in the Wall Hanging size; Pam won third place in the Wall Hanging size; and Luann won third place in the Miniature size. Congratulations!
Since our Cuddle Care quilts for this year will be nine-patch quilts, the Cuddle Care Committee entered a quilt that they made to share at our first 2018 Cuddle Care meeting.
Also in the Challenge Room were quilts by Joe “Sunshine” Mallard, winner of the Kentucky 2017 State Fair Best of Show. Several of our members were able to attend his lecture and hear more about his work and his techniques.
The quilts hanging behind the prize basket may look familiar – they are the KHQS Challenge quilts that were shared by Donna Duncan at our second February meeting. The LNT basket of “Quilting Essentials” was filled with a trove of quilting treasures and notions.
As QDO co-chair, LNT member Vivian was running around all day, but we were able to catch a picture of her giving announcements and posing with the representative of “Feed the City”, the QDO charity for this year.
As if the whole day wasn’t exciting enough already, at the end of the event, Louisville Nimble Thimbles received the “Quilters’ Day Out Golden Scissors Award for the Best Guild Booth”! It will be on display at future meetings for everyone to enjoy.
The successes of the day, and the winning of this award, was truly possible through the combined efforts of all our members. Thank you!
